Obituary Image

On Friday, September 23, 2016, Edward Walter Masztal, 75, passed into Eternal Rest at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Chicopee to the late Antoinette (Prejsnar) and Walter Masztal. Edward will be deeply missed by his sister and caregiver, Helen Janice Partyka and his niece and godchild, Elizabeth (Betsy) Partyka-Narey and her husband Marty.

He was a lifelong resident of Chicopee and loved his farmhouse and aging barn. Edward was a lifelong educator, teaching high school chemistry for many years at Enfield High School and accounting at several local colleges. “Mr. Ed” enjoyed seeing his former students and learning where their lives had taken them. He liked reading his investment newspapers and his news magazines as well as watching cowboy movie reruns. In the spring and summer, he would spend time working in his organic blueberry patch.

Edward fought a most courageous and valiant battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). He never complained as the disease progressed rapidly and he was able to do less as the days passed. He was a true inspiration to all, especially to his sister and to his niece, to whom he was a father figure.

Visiting hours for Edward will be Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Indian Orchard. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 assembling at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home and proceeding to Christ the King Church for a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery.
