Elizabeth Mae (Murray) Fernandes, affectionately known as Betty, 82, a 60 year resident of Ludlow, died Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Palmer on Aug. 18, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Anthony & Catherine (Topor) Murray. The wife of the late Americo J. Fernandes who passed away in 1985, Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Linda Deslauriers and her husband Gerard of Southwick, a son, Robert Fernandes and his wife Kathryn of Granby, five grandchildren, Jason Fernandes and his wife Andrea of Belchertown, Rebecca Schulman and her husband Michael of West Hartford, CT, Brian Deslauriers and his wife Kristina of Avon, CT, Rachel Carr and her husband Donald of West Springfield and Lara Fidalgo and her husband Chad of Wilbraham, and three great-grandchildren, Nathan and Nolan Fernandes and Noah Schulman.

The biggest joy in her life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and member of Christ the King Church in Ludlow. She loved the beach (especially Cape Cod), reading, the Red Sox, cruising and caring for her home. She enjoyed spending time with her extended family and friends, especially her sister-in laws and cousins. Elizabeth worked as an Office Manager/Bookkeeper for Antonio Belanger and Sons Construction in Indian Orchard and later at Dufault & Vann Financial Services in Chicopee  until she retired.

Funeral Services for Elizabeth will be on Friday, Nov. 18 at 9am from Nowak Funeral and Cremation Service, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Christ the King Church, Ludlow at 10am. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Springfield. Calling Hours will be at the funeral home on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 4-7pm.
