Sophie C. (Siarkiewicz) Kareta, 96, of Wilbraham, died Monday, Sept. 26, 2016 at the Life Care Center in Wilbraham. She was born on Jan. 29, 1920, the daughter of the late Steve and Jadwiga (Kukla) Siarkiewicz. Sophie previously worked at Sickles, Cromwell Mills, Buxton and the Soule Road School. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Indian Orchard, and a member of their Holy Rosary and St. Anne Sodalities.

Sophie was predeceased by her first husband, Thaddeus Nowak and her second husband, Leo Kareta, two sisters, Helen Panek and Evelyn Siwicki and her granddaughter, Sharon (Nowak) Lopata. She is survived by her two boys, Thaddeus “Ted” Nowak and his wife Dulce, and Stanley “Stas”Kareta and his wife Carole, her grandchildren, Mark Nowak and his wife Jennifer, Lisa Vartanian and her husband Aram, Tad Nowak and Kevin Kareta and his wife Tracy, her great-grandchildren, Rececca, Jessica, Samantha, Nicholas, Nathan, Abby, Collin, Drew, Brooke, Tyler and  Austin, her great-great-grandchildren, Dylan and Madelyn Sofia, her sister, Jennie Stejna, and her godchildren, E. Robert Siwicki and James Panek. Sophie’s family wishes to thank Dennis Lopata and the staff, especially Nali, at the Life Care Center of Wilbraham for their special care of Sophie.

Funeral Services for Sophie will be on Friday, Sept. 30, with Calling Hours held from 9:00am – 10:30am at Nowak Funeral and Cremation Service, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11am at Immaculate Conception Church and burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
