Nubia I. (Franco) Castro, 63, passed away at home on April 4, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Born on April 7, 1960 in Montebello, Colombia she was a daughter of the late Joaquin Franco and Maria Franco-Ramirez.
Nubia grew up in Colombia and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 24, residing first in New York and for the past 30 years was an Indian Orchard resident. She was a faithful parishioner at Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. Nubia found joy in life’s simple pleasures: singing, dancing, and enjoying a good cocktail, especially her favorite, Aguardiente , a cherished Colombian spirit. She was always fashionable, evident in her beautiful clothing, jewelry, and manicured nails. Most especially, Nubia’s grandchildren were the light of her life.
She leaves her devoted husband of 39 years, Hector Castro; her beloved children, Jessenia Navarro and her husband Edson of Springfield and William Castro of East Longmeadow; her cherished grandchildren, Jenson and Analia; her siblings, Luis, Flor, Mariela, Cecilia, Lucia, and Blanca, along with other extended family members and many friends.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 4-7pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 assembling at the funeral home at 8:45am and proceeding to Blessed Sacrament Church, 40 Waverly St, Springfield for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am. Committal will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
