Alfreda “Tedge” Ann (Kuczynski) Sokolowski 88, passed away on July 19, 2017 at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow surrounded by her loving family. Born in Springfield on July 13, 1929 to the late Joseph and Filomena (Cibrowski) Kuczynski, she was a lifelong Springfield resident. A 1946 graduate of the High School of Commerce, she coordinated her class reunions for over 50 years. Tedge worked for many years for the U.S. Census Bureau as a Census Taker. She was a member of the American Legion Post 441 and was a past president. She considered her role as mother and grandmother her most important job. She was a Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader and volunteered at Daniel B. Brunton Elementary School when her children were younger. She loved vacationing in Westerly, RI and enjoyed relaxing at “the Cottage” that she built with her late husband Michael in Holland, MA.  An accomplished quilter, she was a member of the Pioneer Valley Quilters Guild. Tedge hand knitted Christmas stockings which she gifted to family and friends. Tedge will be remembered as a loving and caring person who enjoyed talking with others. Her “gift of gab” led her to meet many new people establishing lifelong friendships.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Michael Sokolowski, Jr., and her brother, Attorney Edward Kuczynski. She leaves, cherishing her memory, her children, Gregory Sokolowski and his wife Louisa of Shrewsbury, Beth-Ann Kalinko and her husband Joseph of Springfield. She is also survived by her devoted grandchildren; Katie Kalinko, Kara and Michael Kazalis and her great-granddaughter Sophia, Geoffrey and Jonathan Sokolowski and Erika Rosenthal. She also leaves her loving sister, Helen Danie of Westerly, RI and many nieces, nephews, other family members and lifelong friends. The family would like to thank the staff at the Jewish Nursing Home for the compassionate care given to Alfreda.

The family will receive guests on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 from 9:00-9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, 334 Franklin St, Springfield, MA.
