Anthony L. Minchella, 87, passed away October 12, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at the Jewish Nursing Home in Longmeadow. Born in Chelsea, MA to the late Carmine and Maria (DiGaetano) Minchella, he settled in Springfield in 1971 after traveling the world in the United States Air Force. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he worked as a mechanic in the Air Force for 21 years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He had also worked as a manager at Boilard Lumber for 21 years and was the co-owner of the former Upfront Suburban Auto glass of Wilbraham. Anthony was an active parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Springfield where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He helped to establish Bingo at his parish and also at Holy Name Church.
Supportive of his son's race car hobby at Riverside Speedway, he owned several cars, especially #5. An avid musician, Anthony played trumpet and had a Swing band in high school. Most especially, he loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He was very involved in their various activities and they were a big part of his life.
He leaves his wife of 68 years, Marion (Keniston) Minchella; his sons, Anthony C. Minchella and his wife Patricia of East Longmeadow, Robert Minchella and his wife Lisa of Springfield and Keith Minchella and his fiance, Jodi Terrell of Somers, CT; his grandchildren, Christopher Minchella, Kevin Minchella and his wife Ericka, Elizabeth Minchella-Russell and her wife Rachel, Nathan Minchella and Isabella Minchella; his great-grand-children, Josephine and Francesca; his sister, Rosemary Quagliato and many other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Lauren Pedroso; his sisters Anna (Salvatore) Noto, Elena (Armenio) Statuto, Margaret (Frank) Rubino, Micheline (Jim) Roma and a brother-in-law, Anthony Quagliato.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 assembling at 9:30am at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield and proceeding to St. Catherine of Siena Church for a mass at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Park Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.
