Donald Peter Ucella

Donald Peter Ucella was born May 2, 1923 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Anthony A. Ucella and Jennie Curto Ucella. He married Pauline Smrecek Ucella on July 19, 1947 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Donald at the age of 93 passed from death to Life with his Lord and Savior on January 19, 2017. He served his country in the Army as a mechanic in World War II. Donald worked in maintenance for the Springfield, Massachusetts school district for 25 years. In 2011, he moved to Texas to be closer to his family.

Don was not a man of many words but he was an excellent listener. He was an avid reader. Don was interested in news of the world. He dressed every day in a button down dress shirt, pants and dress shoes. Don wore a hat whenever he went out. Even at his advanced age he always had rosy cheeks and a full head of hair. Up until his last days, his mind was present and sharp, asking questions about the happenings around him. Don was committed to his family and he was greatly loved. He will be missed. 

Don is survived by his daughter, Lynn Ucella; son, Gary Ucella; Peggy Ucella; grandsons, Sean Smith and Anthony M. Ucella; and great- grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pauline Ucella; brothers, Anthony Ucella and John Ucella; and grandson, Anthony Smith. 

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Cemetery, St. Christopher section, 1601 State St., Springfield. Arrangements are entrusted to Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services.
