Springfield: Dr. James A. Cote, 88, died peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2019 at East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Facility. Born in Springfield to the late Aime and Blanche (Bouffard) Cote, he had been a Springfield resident for most of his life. He was a retired research scientist specializing in plastics and had worked for Monsanto and W.R. Grace. He earned a doctorate in chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and held several patents in the field of plastics. A quiet, solitary, and learned man, he struggled in his later years with the effects of a severe and debilitating mental illness. Throughout his life, he was a portrait of dignity, subtle wit, and gentlemanly demeanor. He will be missed.
James was predeceased by his siblings, Joseph Cote, Audrey Kervick, and Mary (Pat) Dennis. He leaves seven nieces and nephews who remember him fondly as a kindly and beloved uncle.
There are no visitation hours. The funeral Mass is at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Ludlow, MA on Monday, February 25th at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield.
