Maurice C. Morel, 83, died peacefully at Mercy Medical Center on Thursday, November 16, 2017. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire on October 17, 1934, he was the son of Charles Morel and Maria (Ruel) Morel. He grew up in Chicopee Massachusetts, graduating from Chicopee High School in 1953. He worked at Chicopee Undergarment from 1951 through 1967. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University in 1972, and worked in the State of Connecticut Prison system from 1969 through 1989, where he retired with the rank of Captain. He was a member of the Chicopee Elks club since 1968, and was a member of the National Guard. Maurice will be remembered as a smart, fun, hardworking man with a great sense of humor who would always lend a hand to help family and friends.

He will be forever and deeply missed by Hedy (Szydziak) Morel, his loving wife of 60 years, who resides in Springfield Massachusetts. He is predeceased by his sister Rita. He is survived by his brother Robert and his wife Barbara of Elkton, Florida and his three children, Maurice Morel and his wife Niurka of Boca Raton, Florida; Michael Morel and his wife Robin of Longmeadow; Mark Morel and his wife Mary of Merritt Island, Florida, along with his four grandchildren, Lisa, Laura, Max, and Olympia, along with great grandchildren Ella, Camryn and Miles.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 assembling at 10:00 a.m. at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield and proceeding to Immaculate Conception Church for a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Rose DeLima Cemetery in Chicopee. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
