Phyllis L. Larson

Phyllis L. (Rein) Larson, 93, passed away May 1, 2017 at Redstone in East Longmeadow. Born in Brattleboro, Vermont to the late Alfred and Martha (Smith) Rein, she was a lifelong Springfield resident.

Phyllis sang in the chorus at Classic High School and after graduation went on to study classical piano. She worked at Steiger’s Department Store and was elected Secretary of the Homebuilders Association of Greater Springfield, but her most important role was that of a mother and homemaker. Phyllis traveled Europe extensively, including trips to Switzerland and Yugoslavia and the Caribbean Islands. When she wasn’t in her kitchen creating homemade meals, she was in her backyard lovingly landscaping with trees, stone walls and flowers. She adored nature and caring for animals, often healing them back to health. In addition to her love of gardening she also enjoyed knitting afghan blankets for family and friends.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Roland Larson; her daughter, Sherry Feroni and her lifelong best friend, Ella Draper. She leaves her daughter, Carla Feroni of Essex, CT; her 2 beloved granddaughters, Christina Corsaro and Andrea Donovan and her husband Michael and her 2 great-grandchildren, Lainey and Tyler Donovan who were the light of her life.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield followed by burial at Oak Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Forgotten Felines, Inc., P.O. Box 734, Clinton, CT 06413.
