Richard F. Brackney, 77, of Springfield, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018 at the Elaine Center in Hadley. Born in Easthampton on Jan. 25, 1941, he was the son of the late Alfred & Mina (Vaughn) Brackney. Richard served with the U. S. Marine Corps for 4 years during the Vietnam War and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. He worked in the food service industry for many years and retired from Fitzwilly’s Restaurant in Northampton as a chef in 2013.
Richard was pre-deceased by his wife, Marie E. (Dubois) Brackney who died Oct. 27, 2018. He was also the brother of the late John Mansfield and Mary LeBeau. Richard is survived by his daughter, Marceline Brochu of Springfield, four grandchildren, Anthony, Erica, Olivia and Alex as well as his two great-grandchildren, Jaiden and Laila and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral for Richard will be on Monday, Dec. 3 at 9am from Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield followed by a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 417 Boston Rd., Springfield at 10am. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Brigid’s Cemetery, Easthampton. Calling Hours will be at the funeral home on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assocation, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA, 02452.
