Rogerio Dutra Obituary

Rogerio F. Dutra, 80, of Ludlow, MA, died Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Antonio S. Dutra and the late Maria Faria Dutra.  At 17, Roger made the move from the Azores to Massachusetts, eventually settling in Ludlow, MA.  Roger worked as a set-up man and machine operator for over 30 years at Danaher Tool Group (formerly Easco) where he took early retirement to spend more time with his family.  He was an avid fisherman who loved spending his summers in Rhode Island enjoying the beach, boating and spending time with grandkids.  Many evenings you could find him sitting on a bucket in the sand at the beach with a fishing pole in hand and a granddaughter on one knee.

Roger leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Pires Dutra, his daughter and son-in-law, Annamarie and Steven Gall of Charlestown, RI, and his two precious granddaughters Alyssa and Alexandra Gall, also of Charlestown, RI.  He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Richard Fields of Ludlow, MA, his Godson David Fields of Ludlow, MA and Florida, his brother and sister-in-law Gilbert and Teresa Dutra, both of Chicopee, MA and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Antonio and Nancy Pires of Florida.  He also leaves a number of nieces and nephews.

Thank you to all individuals from Baystate Hospice who were so caring and helpful.  Because of all of you, Roger was able to spend his last days at home surrounded by his family.

As per the family’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or service.  In lieu, future masses will be said in his honor.
