Stanley F. Misiaszek

Stanley F. Misiaszek, 93, a lifelong resident of Indian Orchard passed away at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. Born in Ludlow on Dec. 3, 1923, he was the son of the late Frank & Katarzyna (Krysa) Misiaszek.

Stanley was a WW II Army combat veteran. He served as a rifleman under Gen. Eisenhower with the 324th Infantry, Co L during the Rhineland campaign in Northern France, Austria and Germany. He was wounded on Dec. 3, 1944 and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star along with other medals.

He was employed at American Bosch, Chapman Valve and was a postal clerk at the Indian Orchard Post Office for 31 years, retiring in 1985. Stanley enjoyed walking in the woods, mushroom picking, feeding the birds and dancing. He was a Life Member of Polish American Veterans of Wilbraham and the D. A. V., Chapter #68 of Springfield, and the V. F. W. Post 3236 of Ludlow. He also belonged to the American Legion Post #277 and was a member of the Polish National Alliance. Stanley was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Indian Orchard.

He was pre-deceased by his first wife Edna Parker in 1967 and his second wife Catherine McGowan in 2005. He was also pre-deceased by his siblings, John Misiaszek, Julia Twarog and Rose Wargo. He leaves his daughter, Carol Misiaszek and son, John Riley. Stanley was the “adopted GrandPa” to Sue Ann Voisine, Pvt. Michael Jessmer and Joan Jessmer. His daughter would like to thank the wonderful staff of 4 East of the Soldiers’ Home for the wonderful care they gave him, and also thanks to Johanna Danek  and the Jessmer family.

Funeral services for Stanley will be on Saturday, April 8, with a Calling Hour from 9:30-10:30am at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Service, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield followed by a Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Indian Orchard at 11am, and burial with Military Honors in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Indian Orchard. Memorial Contributions may be made to either the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA, 01040 or to the Salvation Army C/O Springfield Corps, P. O. Box 55, Springfield, MA, 01101-0055 which helped him when his father died while he was at war.
