Susan M. (Drapeau) Ewing, 68, of Springfield, died at home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018. Born in Springfield on July 18, 1949, she was the daughter of the late William G. and Simone A. (Campbell) Drapeau. A graduate of Precious Blood High School, class of 1967. Susan, along with her husband William, owned Olsen’s Mercantile antique shop and restored an 1822 farmhouse in the historic district of Springfield. Her career in Accounts Payable included positions at Albert Steiger’s, Dairy Mart, Yale Genton’s, Sonoco Products, and the Town of Longmeadow DPW from which she retired. She was a devout Catholic, an avid furniture refinisher, and creator and captain of Team Shawn for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) from 2008-2013. She also walked in the Boston Marathon in 1995, as well as the Rays of Hope Walk in 2016. Susan was a very active blood donor and donated enough blood to save three lives.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, William R. Ewing, her three children, Michelle Racz and her husband Bruce of Ellington, CT, Steven Ewing of Agawam, and Carrie Ann Berthiaume and her husband Ralph of Springfield, three grandchildren, Andrew Berthiaume and Shawn and Alexander Ewing, three brothers, the late William Drapeau, Jr., Norman Drapeau of Springfield and Eugene Drapeau of Rio Rancho, NM, two sisters, Janet Picard of Westfield, Madeleine Laskoski of Oneonta, AL, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Susan’s Funeral Mass, Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 11:15am at St. Patrick’s Church, 1900 Allen St., Springfield followed by Committal Services at the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam at 1pm. There are no calling hours.
