William J. Levakis, Sr., 85, of Hampden, died Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by his family. Born in Springfield on March 9, 1933, Bill was the son of the late George and Irene (Laliberte) Levakis. He was a lifelong resident of Hampden and started working as a young man on the family farm. He later worked in another family business, Liberty Laundry before working for Smith & Wesson for 35 years. Bill also ran his own repair shop, Hampden Lawnmower for 40 years. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Cecilia’s Church in Wilbraham.
He was the husband of the late Judith (Adams) Levakis, and was predeceased by his four brothers and sisters. Bill is survived by his children, William Levakis, Jr. of Hampden, Sheila Murphy and husband Brian of Hampden, Pamela Parker of Enfield, CT, and his nephew who was like his son, George Levakis, III of Hampden, his step-children, George, Marilyn, Arleigh, Lynda and Rebecca, his seven grandchildren, Tara, Emily, Kayla, Rebecca, Kristal, Melanie and Mallorie, five great-grandchildren, Ryan, Conner, Aiden, Eddie and Emery, as well as many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Bill’s family would like to thank all of his caregivers for the wonderful care that they gave him.
Calling Hours for Bill will be on Wednesday, March 6, from 4-7pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Bill on Thursday, March 7 at 10am at St. Cecilia’s Church, 42 Main St., Wilbraham (please meet directly at church). In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Hampden Senior Center, 104 Allen St., Hampden, MA, 01036.
