Agnes Louise (Hunkele) Hoffman, 89, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2026, at Baystate Medical Center.
Born and raised in New York City on April 10, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Louis Hunkele and Margaret (Mason) Zuvich. In 2007, she moved to Ludlow with her daughter Luann and they later settled in Indian Orchard.
Agnes dedicated 40 years to working at Merricat’s Castle Nursery School in New York City where she was very involved in the school’s functions, including the annual auction. Staff and students raved about her delicious fried chicken and tuna fish sandwiches. Even after relocating to Western Massachusetts, she continued commuting to her beloved school.
She leaves behind her three children: Christopher Hoffman of Staten Island, New York, Luann Hoffman of Indian Orchard, Massachusetts, and Stacy Hoffman of Staten Island, New York; her sister, Margaret Carcasi of Texas, along with several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, John Hoffman; her parents, Louis and Margaret; 4 sisters, Catherine, Marilyn, Caroline, and Mary and a brother, Robert.
All services will be private at the convenience of the family and are entrusted to Nowak Funeral and Cremation Services.
