Almerinda Fernandes Alves

Almerinda Fernandes Alves, 85, passed away on December 21, 2024 in the care and comfort of her daughter’s home in Ludlow surrounded by her loving family. Born in Ventuzelos, Portugal on August 3, 1939 to the late Crizostomo Ventura Alves and Lucinda Fernandes, she came to the United States in 1985 settling in Indian Orchard. Almerinda was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. For many years, she worked at Ludlow Textiles. She was a talented seamstress and also loved to crochet. Most especially, family was everything to her. She loved and adored her daughters and grandchildren.

She leaves her daughters, Maria Filomena Paulino and her husband Artur and Ana Maria Pires and her husband Jose, all of Ludlow; her grandchildren, Joshua Paulino and his wife Jacquelyn, Natalia Paulino, Michelle Pires, Michael Pires and his wife Agata, and Catarina Pires; a great-granddaughter, Emilia Pires; her sisters, Barbara Fernandes Ventura, Rosa Fernandes Alves, Carminda Alves Ramos, and Leopoldina Alves Amaral, along with many other extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Alfredo Calvao Batista, and a sister, Maria Alves Rodrigues.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 with Calling Hours from 10am-12pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services and proceeding to Our Lady of Fatima Church for a Funeral Mass at 12:30pm. Burial will follow at Island Pond Cemetery.
