Bernard Sears Obituary

Bernard Arthur Sears, 91, a longtime Wilbraham resident, passed away October 13, 2023 after a short illness, with his loving family by his side, at Baystate Medical Center. Bernie was born in Barnstable, MA on April 4, 1932 to the late Elsie Sears. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Bernie worked for many years as the plumbing inspector for the Town of Wilbraham, retiring in 2020. He was also the owner of Sears Plumbing and Heating.

Bernie was a proud member of the Masonic Order, serving 66 years, and became a worshipful master of the Elm Belcher Lodge in 1976. He was also a member of the Melha Shriners Association and devoted many years of his life to the organization.

An avid hunter, he spent many years with his family at their hunting camp in Vermont. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, including snowmobiling, boating, ATV riding, and spending time in Rhode Island at their seasonal RV park. Most especially, Bernie loved time spent with his cherished loved ones.

He leaves his beloved wife of 66 years, Marion (Turner) Sears; his children: Lynne Maheu and her husband Moe of Granby, MA, Greg Sears and his wife Tracey of Granby, MA, Debbie Broughear and her husband Mark of Winchester, VA, Kevin Sears of Sturbridge, MA, and Lisa Vital and her husband Tony of Indian Orchard, MA. His 13 grandchildren will dearly miss their “Bumper”: Justin Ferrara (Tracy), Ryan Maheu (Marissa), Kurt Sears (Shannon), Meggie DeCesare (Vinnie), Teddy Sears (Matt), Jeremy Sears, Nicole Black (Kevin), Jessica DeForge (Josh), Amanda Theocles (Andrew), Jared Broughear, Tara Beaulieu (John), Tiffany Vital (fiancé Jim), and Tyler Vital. He also leaves 14 great-grandchildren (and 2 on the way) and 1 great-great-grandchild.
