Bruce Clayton Detata, 75, passed away at home on September 5, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Springfield to the late Gorman and June (Stetson) Detata, he was a lifelong Springfield resident who lived in the same home on Tavistock Street since the age of 9. A 1963 graduate of Cathedral High School, he went on to earn a degree from the US Naval Academy in Maryland and served honorably in the United States Navy during Vietnam. He worked as a correctional officer for the state of Connecticut for 20 years. Bruce was an avid player of Dungeons and Dragons.
He leaves a daughter, Nichole Gagne and her husband Michael of Springfield and a son, David Williams of Springfield; his grandchildren, Dante, Audreanna, and Tea along with other family members and many friends, including lifelong friends of over 60 years John Kawa and the Slate family. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Williams and his first wife, Michele (Schroeder) Detata.
Committal service with military honors will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 11:00am at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Reception to follow at 96 Tavistock St., Springfield MA 01119 at 2:00pm for those interested in celebrating Bruce's life.
