Darrell Wayne Rollins, 70, passed away February 1, 2023 surrounded by family at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield on January 15, 1953 to the late Oscar Van and Virginia (Gebo) Rollins, he was a lifelong Springfield resident. Darrell served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corp during Vietnam, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal. In 1975, he joined the Springfield Fire Department. His career spanned 28 years, where he also served as the Local 648 Union President and PFFM District 5 Vice President for many years. Darrell was a member of the American Legion Post 420, Elks Lodge and the Italian American Club. He enjoyed golf and fishing on his boat, especially in Otis. Most especially, he was a devoted husband, father, brother and beloved grandfather who loved spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Mayo) Rollins; his daughters, Lynn Brown and her husband Robert of West Springfield and Jamie Theroux and her husband Todd of Longmeadow; his grandchildren, Breanne, Emilee, Ella, Michael, and Sarah; his great-grandchildren, Greyson and Brooksley; 2 sisters, Donna Williams and her husband Anthony of Vermont and Tammy Paliki and Chris of Florida, along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents and 4 siblings: William, Van, Douglas, and Laurel Lee Rollins.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023 from 4-7pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Indian Orchard. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 7 at 11am at the funeral home followed by committal with military honor at 1pm at the MA Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam.
