David Charles Hardy, 93, passed away July 6, 2023 at Chestnut Hill of East Longmeadow Nursing Home. David was born and raised in Springfield, MA, a son of the late Charles W. and Beatrice (Burlingame) Hardy. He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force with the U.S. occupying forces after WWII in Japan. He also served during the Korean Conflict, achieving the rank of Technical Sergeant. In 1969, he moved to East Longmeadow where he raised his family. David worked for several area companies, including Alston and UniRoyal, retiring from Combustion Engineering as a traffic clerk in 1994. David volunteered at many organizations, including the 4H at the Big E, the East Longmeadow Senior Center, and the Chestnut Hill Nursing Home where he assisted with Bingo and other activities for the residents. Along with his late wife Joan, he enjoyed crafts and hobbying. They were skilled and enjoyed assembling and decorating dollhouse kits, which they would gift to others. He also liked puttering around the yard and watching NASCAR racing.
David leaves his son, Kenneth “Butch” Hardy and partner Beverly Carrington of Huntington and several nieces and nephews, including John Sypek of Chicopee who they traveled and vacationed with. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Joan (Murphy) Hardy in 2014; 2 brothers, Richard Hardy and Charles Hardy II and a sister, Barbara Blocker.
