Dino R. Barry (Baschizore), age 95, passed away peacefully on December 10, 2019 at a nursing home in Holyoke, MA. A lifelong Springfield resident, Dino attended Trade High School where he learned to be a machinist through the co-op program.
Dino was a motor machinist in the Navy serving in World War II. He was stationed in Newport Rhode Island and then onto a troop transport ship -- the USS Pickaway -- bringing troops to the Philippines at Subic Bay and then Caledonia. He was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
After his military service Dino married Eileen (Donovan) Barry. He worked at Western Massachusetts Electric Company in West Springfield for 35 years, retiring in 1989. Dino is predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, his 5 sisters, and his daughter-in-law. He is survived by his three children, his son-in-law, one grandson, and many nieces and nephews. He will be lovingly remembered as a kind and humble man who was devoted to his family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Heart Association. The family thanks all of the wonderful doctors, nurses and health aides who have helped Dino throughout the years.
