Donald Michael Makarewicz, 89, of Longmeadow, passed away on December 13, 2023. Born on November 9, 1934 to the late Michael and Mary (Morawiec) Makarewicz, he was a lifelong area resident. Donald served honorably in the U.S. Army. He was a teacher and guidance counselor for 34 years in the Enfield, CT Public Schools. An avid golfer, he was a longtime member of Ludlow Country Club. He was a devoted NY Yankees fan. He enjoyed meeting his friends in Ludlow for coffee. But most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He leaves his children and their spouses: Denise and Todd Ditmar of Longmeadow, Diane and Bryan Miller of South Windsor, CT, and Brian “Buzz” Makarewicz and Mark Osborn of Boothbay Harbor, ME. His grandchildren: Meghan Porcello (and her husband Stephen), Drew, Jamie Miller, Tyler and Taylor Ditmar, and his great grand-daughter, Josephine Rose, as well as other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rose Marie (Carrigan) Makarewicz and his sister, Nancy Santos.
In keeping with Donald’s wishes, all services will be private.
