Doug was a dedicated and proud brother, leaving behind his two sisters, Kathryn and Jennifer, his brother Joseph and his wife Kathleen. Doug was a proud uncle of three nieces, two nephews, and had countless aunts, uncles, cousins; whom he loved dearly.
As a soldier, Doug served two deployments and was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, serving in the Vessel Board Search and Seizure Team. He was trained in Blackwater and spent years traveling the world.
Doug’s brilliance was noted in his journalism and his natural way with words. He shared his world with his poetic words that captured the hardships and truths of life. He channeled this by helping and advocating for Veterans by establishing numerous federal grants to help homeless Vets. Doug was naturally drawn to helping others.
