Douglas “Dougie” Warren Rollins, 66, passed away on October 11, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Springfield, MA to the late Oscar Van Rollins and Virginia A. (Gebo) Rollins, he was a lifelong Springfield resident. A U.S. Marine Corp veteran, he served honorably during Vietnam, obtaining the rank of Lance Corporal. Dougie retired from the Springfield Fire Department after 30 years of dedicated service to the city. Prior to being a firefighter, he worked for Sweet Life for 10 years, proudly playing on their softball team, The Rockets. He was an active member of the Italian-American Citizens Club of Springfield, the Ludlow Elks, and American Legion Post 420 in East Springfield. Dougie’s strong support of POW/MIA and the Marine Corps was just one example of how he lived his life; with the true heart of a soldier, always faithful to God, Corps, and Country.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Jennifer Lee Rollins of Springfield and Kimberly Rollins of Venice, FL; his brother, Darrell Rollins and his wife Patricia “Auntie Pat” of Springfield; his sisters, Tammy Paliki and her husband Chris of Ocoee, FL, and Donna Williams and her husband Anthony of Highgate, VT; his grandchildren, Corrina Sykes and Janae Rollins; his longtime friend and Marine Corp comrade, Rodney Dolan; his aunts Marlene and Loraine, his uncle Bud and many nieces, nephew, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, William and Van Rollins and a sister, Laurel Lee Rollins.
The family would also like to extend a heart-felt thank you to all the physicians, nurses, and staff at the D’Amour Cancer Center at Baystate Medical Center for the compassionate care given to him.
