Ernest D. Kenny, Sr., 99, died in his Indian Orchard home on October 12, 2023 surrounded by his family. Born in River Rouge, Michigan on June 13, 1924, he was the son of the late John & Pearl (O’Connor) Kenny. Ernie was raised in Ottawa, Canada. He moved back to the States after HS, joining the US Army Air Corp during WWII where he met Ruth. They were married 68 loving years raising 10 children together. Ernie served as a past Commander of the American Legion Post 277, supporting the organization and veterans throughout the years. He had many jobs supporting his large family, finally retiring from Nestles. His Catholic Faith was most important to him, he was a Eucharistic Minister, Fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and mentored to many. He loved his family especially enjoying when grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit bringing their joy.
Ernest was predeceased by his wife Ruth (Leonard) Kenny, four children, Bernadette Gelinas, Ernest “Danny” Kenny, Jr., Beverly Kenny and Doug Kenny, his brother, Patrick Kenny, and son-in-law Bill Comette. He is survived by his children, Bonnie (Jim) Amtmann, Barbara Kenny, Belinda Comette, Brenda (Jim) Jablonski, David Kenny and Bridget (Pat) McCarthy, his sisters, Moyeen O’Connor, Terry Tudge and Barbara Duggan, as well as 27 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Calling Hours for Ernest will be held on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 2-5pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield. His funeral will be on Monday, Oct. 23, gathering at the funeral home at 10am prior to his Funeral Mass in Christ the King Church, 41 Warsaw Ave., Ludlow at 11am. Committal Services with Military Honors will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
