It is with much sadness that the family of Frank Paul Garde announces his passing on September 18, 2023. Frank Paul was born on August 19, 1928 in Springfield, MA, the oldest son of the late Frank Peter and Marie E. (Santarsiero) Garde. He attended Holy Family Grammar School in Springfield, taught by the Sisters of St. Joseph and attended Cathedral High School. He married Marceline Delude on April 25, 1949. Frank worked at Haynes & Company, Milton Bradley, and Moore Drop Forge before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1952. He served in Korea and was wounded in September, 1952. He convalesced in Yokohama and Omiya before returning to his outfit. He left Korea on the day of armistice on July 27, 1953 and was honored with the Purple Heart medal for his bravery and sacrifice. Frank returned to work for Moore Drops Forge for 7 years before beginning a 13 years career with the U.S. Postal Service. He worked as a sub-clerk and regular clerk, and retired as a supervisor in 1973 at age 50.
Frank was an avid bowler and golfer, winning many tournaments and championships. He especially fondly remembered winning a Class C mixed tournament in 1960 with partner Elanor Warriner. He also enjoyed working in his flower garden.
Frank is survived by 2 nieces and 5 nephews including his niece Susan Bisnette and her husband Mark who lived with him and cared for him for the past 4 years. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Giuseppe and Rose Santarsiero and Emidio and Lucia Garde; his parents, Frank Peter and Marie E. Garde; his brother, Philip M. Garde; uncles and aunts: Daniel and Theresa Garde and daughter Rita, Joseph and Angelina Garde, John Garde, Russell and Frances Gour, Vern and Florence Wilson, and Leonardo, Donato, Angelina, Vincent, Victor, and Camella Santarsiero.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 24 Jabish St., Belchertown followed by burial with military honors at St. Michael Cemetery, 1601 State St. Springfield. Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.
