Genowefa Kaczowka Obituary

Genowefa R. (Soja) Kaczowka, 95, of Indian Orchard, died at home on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020. She was born in Springfield on Sept. 20, 1924, the daughter of the late Frank & Maria (Zachara) Soja. Genowefa moved to Poland in 1926, and then came back with her family to the U. S in 1962, and had lived in Indian Orchard for most of her life. She worked for Sickles Company & Eastern Container. Genowefa was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and belonged to the St. Anne Society.

Genowefa was predeceased by her husband, Antoni Kaczowka (1993), a son, Marian T. Kaczowka (1984), as well as two brothers, Bronek & Tadek and a sister, Zosia. She is survived by her children, Andrew Kaczowka (Grace), John Kaczowka (Debbie) and devoted daughter Maria Teresa Prior and son-in-law Wendell, a sister, Kasia Kadzielawa, a sister-in-law, Bronia Soja, a daughter-in-law, Christine Martynski, seven grandchildren, Larry Kaczowka, Robert Kaczowka, Michael Kaczowka (Elizabeth), Angela Kaczowka, Catherine Smits (John), Steven Prior (Katie) and Jennifer Ollquist (Robert), as well as ten great-grandchildren.

Genowefa was an amazing woman who radiated warmth and strength and loved to take care of the people around her. She was a talented seamstress and would crochet beautiful blankets for family, friends and neighbors. When people came to visit she was always ready to sit and talk for hours with a cup of tea or coffee and a tin of cookies. She was proud of her meticulous garden and grew stunning roses. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She would delight her grandchildren with her pickles, perogies, soup and Hershey bars, and they loved playing or just sitting and talking with her. Genowefa was happiest when her family came over and she was feeding them a big dinner, while laughing and telling stories.
