Gerald W. “The Sandman” Spillane, 78, of Wilbraham, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020 at the Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Holyoke on July 31, 1942, he was the son of the late Francis & Gladys (Smith) Spillane. Gerald served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1968-1970. He worked for Daniel O’Connell Construction for 12 years prior to starting his own business in 1985, Jerry Sandblasting, which he ran until he retired in 2007. He loved hunting and fishing with his boys, and going to their baseball, football and soccer games, family camping trips and travelling cross-country. He was a member of the Elm-Belcher Masonic Lodge of Agawam and the Melha Shriners.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda A. (Garbowitz) Spillane, his three sons, Gary Spillane of Wilbraham, Mark Spillane of Springfield and Michael Spillane of Wilbraham, four grandchildren, Ashley, Justin, Kaileigh and Alyssa, as well as one brother, Robert Spillane of Key Largo, FL. Gerald was the brother of the late Constance Bourbeau.
Funeral Services for Gerald will be held privately by his family with burial at the Mass. Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
