Helen T. (Lizak) Simonowicz, 96, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Ludlow on May 2, 1927 to the late John and Frances (Sarfranik) Lizak, she was a lifelong resident of Wilbraham. Helen retired as an inspector for Smith & Wesson. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Springfield. Helen was an accomplished painter and also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and crafting. She was young at heart.
She was predeceased by her parents; her son Richard Walas; her step-son John E. Simonowicz; her 1st husband Stephen Walas and her 2nd husband John A. Simonowicz; and 4 brothers, Leo, John, Mitchell, and Chester Lizak. She leaves 2 step-daughters, Carole Hardick of Southwick and Mary Jane Perodeau and her husband Gerald of West Springfield; her daughter-in-law Nancy Walas of East Longmeadow; her step-daughter-in-law, Donna Simonowicz of New Jersey; her grandchildren, Richard Walas, Jr. of East Longmeadow and Sarah Lewelling of Georgia; 4 step-grandchildren, Tim Hardick, Julie Hardick, Amy Perodeau , Christine McKenna, and Nikki Simonowicz and many great-grandchildren. She also leaves many nieces and nephews, including Frances Bensen and her husband Tom of Westfield and Michele Cowdry and her husband Ron of Springfield.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 with a Calling Hour from 9:30-10:30am at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield and proceeding to St. Catherine of Siena Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery.
