Irene F. (Myslinski) Skarzynski, 94, formerly of Willimansett and Springfield, died October 13, 2024 at the Center for Extended Care in Amherst. Born in Springfield on September 28, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Karol “Carl” and Josephine (Pluta) Myslinski. Irene was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church on Boston Rd. in Springfield. To her grandchildren she will always be remembered as Babci, always ready with kielbasa, pierogi, and strong horseradish if you happened to drop in, and she knew exactly how much to make. She loved her home of 56 years on Patterson Avenue, which she kept in immaculate order inside and out, even when that meant hacking down shrubs when well into her eighties.
In her life she had a deep faith which helped her to welcome all her joys and sorrows with a calm acceptance, bringing her an inner peace that reflected her name, which means Peace. She will be remembered as a humble and selfless woman with a stealthy sense of humor, and a tremendous love of family. Unfailingly upbeat, Irene was a pleasure to all those she met.
As well as eight siblings, Irene was also predeceased by her husband Stanley J. Skarzynski in 2010, and her loving Daughter in Law and pal, Cynthia Skarzynski in 2023. She is survived by her four children, Stanislaus Skarzynski, Jr. of Amherst, James Skarzynski and his wife Terri of Montague, Christine Skarzynski of East Longmeadow and Sr. M. Irene, Missionary of Charity, of Scotland, two grandsons, Nicholas J. and Daniel T. Skarzynski, and one great-grandson, Stanley, with another great-grandson due to arrive in November.
Calling Hours for Irene will be held on Tuesday, October 22, from 5-7pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield. Her funeral will be on Wednesday, October 23, gathering at the funeral home at 9:45 followed by her Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church at 11am and burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
