James Charles Fields, 84, passed away November 6, 2024 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Estelle, SC on April 7, 1940 to the late Jenkin Fields, Sr. and Janie (Perry) Fields, he had resided most of his adult life in Springfield, MA. Jim was a retired postal worker for the U.S. Post Office. He was a faithful member of Church in the Acres in Springfield. Jim was a local legend, known for his extravagant Christmas decorations. His home, both inside and out, was transformed into a magical winter wonderland. People marveled at his intricate displays, which even caught the attention of the local news. Jim was an avid traveler, vacationing throughout the U.S. and abroad. He was especially proud of the adventurous cross country trip he took with his friend, Butch.
He leaves a son, Steven Fields of Portland, OR; a sister, Alberta Everett and her husband Carl of Savannah, GA and his grandchildren, Kevin White, Jr., Korey White, Kayla White, Gabriel Isaiah Fields and Nathan Fields. Uncle JC will also be dearly missed by several nieces and nephews, including Dwayne Fields and his wife Lesenia and their children, Dwayne “Boogie”, Devon and Shaune. His neighbors will also miss their “staple of the neighborhood”.
