James Robert Sullivan, 87, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2023. Born January 31, 1936, he was the son of the late James B. and Alice (Hurley) Sullivan. He was a 1956 graduate of Technical High School, worked for Connecticut General for over 30 years, and was a longtime parishioner at St. Paul's Church.
Known as Bobby and, affectionately by his family, as Tootsie, he was a lifelong resident of Springfield. He enjoyed lunch at Donovan's Irish Pub, which he patronized twice a week for many years.
He loved movies and had a prolific collection of VHS tapes and DVDs. Tootsie was left-handed, and therefore was required to be seated at the left end of the table during holiday dinners to avoid banging elbows with the right handers. At these same celebrations he would often be found in front of the television, holding the channel guide and searching for his favorite channel: Turner Classic Movies.
Bobby is survived by his sister and longtime caregiver, Eileen Duffy (Richard) of Wilbraham; sister Judith Sullivan of East Longmeadow; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Claire O'Brien, of Wilbraham and his niece, Beth Bremner, of Mystic, Connecticut.
Services will be private.
