James M. Woodard, Sr., 78, passed away June 7, 2024 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Ticonderoga, New York on December 25, 1945 to the late Harold and Wilma (Lamoy) Woodard. Jim grew up in New York where he worked as an independent contractor and it was there that he met his wife, Shirley, with whom he shared a remarkable 58 years of marriage. In 1970, they embarked on a new chapter, relocating to Wilbraham, where they laid down roots and raised their family. He worked as a maintenance mechanic for Longview Fibre, retiring after 30 years of service. Jim found purpose in his faith as a devoted Jehovah's Witness, finding fellowship and spiritual fulfillment at the Kingdom Hall in Springfield. Jim enjoyed fishing and it was on the horseshoe pitch that his skill and precision made him an accomplished player, winning many matches over friends and competitors alike. Among his prized possessions was his 1965 Impala, a classic beauty that he lovingly maintained and treasured for many years.
He leaves his beloved wife, Shirley (Hough) Woodard; his children, James Woodard, Jr. and his wife Lisa of Springfield, William Woodard of Rutland, VT, Shirley Robertson of Springfield, and Deborah Allard and her husband Robert of Monson; his sisters, Diane, Carol, and Bonnie; his grandchildren, Becky Robertson, Mike Lopada, Jr., and Crystal Woodard; his great-grandchildren, Freya and Joey, along with several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Woodard and a brother, Brett Woodard.
