Jane (Buczko) Wurszt, 80, of Indian Orchard, died January 9, 2024, also her husband’s birthday, at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. Born in a work camp in Goseck, Germany on Dec. 15, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Stanislaw and Teodora (Bandurka) Buczko. Jane came to this country in 1965 settling in Indian Orchard where she lived for the past 58 years. She was proud to be an American citizen and was very grateful for all the opportunities this country offered. Jane was extremely hard working, and was devoted to her family, her friends and her church. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and its’ Rosary Society, the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the church choir. She also volunteered in the church kitchen making pierogis and other Polish specialties for their many functions over the years. She was also a member of the Polania Club. She was a phenomenal cook and took great pride in her pastries, desserts and all of her cooking. Jane previously worked for the R. E. Phelon Company formerly of East Longmeadow.
Jane is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jozef Wurszt, her three sons, Richard Wurszt and his wife Barbara of Ludlow, Edward Wurszt and his wife Denise of Wilbraham and Michal Wurszt of Indian Orchard. She is also survived by five grandchildren whom she loved to spend time with, cook for and and go to all their sporting events;, Alexa, Randy, Eddie, Peter and Matthew. She was predeceased by her sister Maria (1952).
Calling Hours for Jane will be held on Monday, Jan. 15, from 4-7pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield. Her funeral will be on Tuesday, Jan. 16, gathering at the funeral home at 10am followed by a Funeral Mass at 11am at Immaculate Conception Church, and burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery.
