Janet K. (Kupeck) Chlastawa

Janet (Kupeck) Chlastawa, 91, a former resident of Indian Orchard, passed away in the memory care unit of ORMC in Ocoee, Florida on April, 23.  She was born July 17, 1928 in Suffield, CT to the late Stanley & Clara Florentina (Misiaszek) Kupeck and was raised in Vernon, CT and graduating from Rockville High.   Janet was predeceased by her brother Leon Kupeck, and her sisters Mary Miloz and Vicky Misiaszek.

Janet was predeceased by her beloved son Joseph Chlastawa in May, 1964.   She is survived by four loving children – Stanley Chlastawa and Cynthia Sniezak of Orlando, FL, Ted Chlastawa Jr. and his wife Monica of Rio Rancho, NM, Michael Chlastawa of Holland, MA. She will also be forever missed by her five grandchildren Mike Jr., Jack, Colleen, Joseph and Bridget. 

Janet met her future husband, Thaddeus (Ted) Chlastawa when they both stood up at the wedding of a mutual friend. Janet and Ted were married April, 29, 1950 in Rockville, CT.  After the birth of their first two children the family moved to their long-time home on Wrona Street in Indian Orchard, where Janet had her next three children. She was a housewife and loving mother while her children were young.  Janet was an active hockey mom, worked the polls in local elections and made countless pierogi, cheesecake and apple squares to delight her family.  She worked at Interstate Laundry for several years, and as a Springfield crossing guard for 28 years. Janet was well-known by the children of Saint Matthews and Myrtle Street schools.  She was a long-time communicant of Immaculate Conception parish. Following her retirement, she moved to Mason-Wright in Springfield, MA, then to Orlando, FL in 2013.
