Janice O'Connor Obituary

Janice Elaine (Barton) O’Connor, 76, passed away January 4, 2021 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Vinalhaven, Maine to the late Arnold and Charlotte (Mills) Barton.  Shortly after graduation from Vinalhaven High School, she moved to Springfield to find work and to live with her aunt and uncle, the late Josephine and Albert Columb. She was an area resident for over 58 years, residing in Springfield, Indian Orchard, Chicopee and most recently West Springfield.  Janice worked as a machine operator at Mead Westvaco for many years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 277 in Indian Orchard. She enjoyed reading, adult coloring books, playing games on her phone, crossword puzzles and also liked listening to karaoke music at the American Legion.

Janice was predeceased by her parents; her husband William T. O’Connor in 1999; a brother Arnold Barton, Jr. and a step-daughter Maureen Minnie. She leaves a brother, Dana Barton of Vinalhaven, ME; a special cousin Ruthann Sassi and her husband Gino of Ludlow; a niece Kirstin Barton and nephew Nicholas Barton; her step-children: William O’Connor and his wife Naza, Debra Nyman and her husband Jeffrey and Patricia Connors; her step-grandchildren: Christopher, Allison, and Aaron Nyman, William, Kevin, and Edward Minnie and Timothy and Brittany Connors; her sister-in-law Candi V. Barton and several cousins, other family members and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 11:00am at St. Michael Cemetery, 1601 State St., Springfield MA. The service will be live streamed and can be viewed at http://client.tribucast.com/tcid/29710777 Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.
