Joao Afonso

Joao Afonso, 95 of Springfield, died Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born on April 10, 1928 in Friaes, Montalegre, Portugal, he was the son of the late Manuel Barroso and Joaquina Afonso. Joao worked as machine operator for Nixon Manufacturing, Ludlow Textile and Laurino Box. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Ludlow and the Portugese Club of Ludlow.

He was predeceased by his wife Maria (Barroso) Afonso, who died Aug. 3, 2020. He is survived by his children, Manuel Afonso and his wife Maria Helena of Indian Orchard, Nuno Afonso of Indian Orchard and Silvia Afonso of Rhode Island, four grandchildren, Bruno, Vasco, Catarina and Alex as well as six great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held privately by his family.
