John Robert Kowal, 68, passed away June 27, 2020 at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Springfield on March 15, 1952, he was a lifelong area resident. John had a long career, working in the auto industry. Known to wear red shoes every day to the automotive auctions, earned him the appropriate nickname, “Red Shoes”. A man who wasn’t afraid to make waves, so those around him could enjoy a good laugh and smile, and in his entertainingly sarcastic manner, there would be no shortage of good times. He loved boating, and in 1980, he acquired, “Sundance.” The boat then became the center of his outdoor life. He also enjoyed golfing, and helping others along their path of life, as much as he could.
John leaves his beloved son and best friend, John J. Kowal of Springfield; His furry family member, Dag; His loving companion of over 15 years, Tobie Koszorowski of Springfield; And a plethora of friends, he acquired along his path. He was predeceased by his mother, Bertha (Kowal) Marrin, and her husband James Marrin.
Due to current restrictions on gatherings, funeral services will be private, and are entrusted to Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services.
