Kenneth W. DeMars, 70, of Springfield, died Monday, December 6, 2021 at the Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 17, 1951, he was the son of the late George and Peggy Jo (Hawkins) DeMars. Ken had lived in Springfield since 1982. He was a member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and had previously served as a coach for the youth soccer program. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Prior to his retirement in 2006, Ken had a 34 year career in civil service and served as a civil engineer for the U. S. Air Force. He was also an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War, when he served from 1969-1973 and discharged honorably with the rank of Sergeant.
Ken is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joanne C. (Maheu) DeMars, his two sons, Kenneth DeMars and his wife Emma of Augusta, GA and Joseph DeMars and his wife Jessica of Suffield, CT, his five grandchildren, William, Andrew, Olivia, Alexa and Makenna. He also leaves his brothers and sisters.
Funeral Services for Ken will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 14 with a visitation period from 10am-11:15am at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 51 Rosewell St., Springfield with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:30am. Committal Services with Military Honors at the MA Veterans’ Cemetery, Agawam at 1pm.
