Lemie Armon Gibeau, 89, entered into Eternal Rest quietly in his sleep on September 18, 2022 at Charlene Manor Extended Care Facility in Greenfield. Born in Springfield on July 4, 1933, he was the son of the late Louis H. and Beatrice (Hamel) Gibeau. Lemie was educated in schools in Palmer and Chicopee and was a member of the Society of Saint Edmund in Putney, VT until 19 years of age. He left the monastery to marry his wife Fern Elizabeth Stetson on August 22, 1953.
Lemie was a communicant of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Parish. In 1952, he joined the US Air Force and in 1953 was stationed in Margate Kent England for 3 years. He was joined by his wife and his two daughters were born there. Lemie retired after 20 years employed as a Connecticut State Corrections Officer. He was an avid Square and Round dancer, loved travelling especially when his children sent him and Fern to Alaska for their 50th anniversary.
Left to mourn him is his wife of 69 years, Fern Gibeau; his daughters Toni Carole Lapointe and husband James, Laura Karen (Pelletier) Lander, and his son Michael Alan Gibeau. He also leaves a sister, Cecile (Brosseau) Chapin, a brother Lester Gibeau and his wife Ming, and a sister-in-law Genevieve Gibeau. Lemie also leaves his grandchildren: Monique (Pelletier) Folco and husband Dominic, Genevieve (Lapointe) Zyla and husband Matthew, Jeremy Lapointe and wife Heather, Jacob Pelletier and wife Amy, Christine (Lapointe) Bost and husband Shawn Flanders, Alan Gibeau and Alyson Gibeau and 7 great grandchildren Quintin and Damon Bost, Madison Lapointe Vore, Lindsey Mae Folco, Dilyn Flanders, and Erin and Meghan Lapointe. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lemie was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Beatrice Gibeau; babies Martin Andre and Alice Beatrice; siblings, Louis Laurent “Larry”, Joseph “Leo”, Lionel, Cordelia “Corkie” Cassell and Leonard “George”; brothers-in-law Herbert Cassell, Arthur Brosseau, and Melvin Chapin; sister-in-law Maria (Caj) Gibeau; son-in-law John Lander and also his good friends, Ernie and Florence Lambert and Henry and Irene D’Amario. He missed and loved all 12 of his dogs.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 5:00-7:00pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022 assembling at 10:00am at the funeral home and proceeding to Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church, 405 Boston Road, Springfield for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:00pm at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics or to the Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control & Adoption Center.
