Luisa G. Fernandes

Luisa G. Fernandes, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 13, 2021. Born in Travassos da Cha, Montalegre, Portugal on July 10, 1926, Luisa spent her young adult years working and raising her family before immigrating to The United States over forty years ago. Working hard while making time to spend with her family during her middle-aged years. Luisa enjoyed crocheting, making beautiful dollies and bedspreads, along with cooking and caring for her sons. She was caring and dedicated to her family, both near and far, and her close-knit community. Luisa enjoyed spending time in Portugal, where she spent several summers. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Luisa was a loving mother to Maria Lopes and husband Cristiano, Fernanda Matias and husband Julio Pacheco, Domingos Batista and devoted and caring daughter in law Idalina, Manuel, and Jorge Fernandes. She also leaves her sister Felismina Paula Lopes from Brazil and her kind and caring sister-in-law (who was more like a sister) Luisa Fernandes. Predeceased by daughter Idalina and brothers Manuel, Albino, Jose, Joao, Fernando, and Domingos.

Many grandchildren blessed Luisa’s life both here and in Portugal. She was loved by Isabel, Joaquim Manuel and wife Paula, Alexandre and wife Paula, Dalia and husband Luis, Silvia and husband Augusto, Daniel and wife Fatima, Christina, Nancy, and Jason and wife Lauren. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and dear friends.

Visiting hours for Luisa will be held October 18, 2021 from 830am to 10am at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield with Liturgy of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Ludlow at 11am followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Luisa’s memory to Our Lady of Fatima Church 438 Winsor St. Ludlow, MA or The Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) 264 Cottage St. Springfield, MA.
