Luz I. Rivera

Luz Ivette Rivera, 55, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on May 10, 2021 at Baystate Medical Center. Luz was born in Camuy, Puerto Rico on January 28, 1966 to the late David Rivera and Emilia Hernandez. In 2016, she obtained a Masters Degree in psychology from Baypath University where she was awarded the coveted Pathfinder Award and was a member of the Maroon Key Honor Society.

Luz’ career was one of selfless service to others. She worked as a domestic abuse advocate for the Springfield Police Department and the YWCA. She was currently an elder abuse investigator for the Great Springfield Senior Services. As a director for Zonta Club of Quaboag Valley, she worked to empower women worldwide through service and advocacy. Luz was the Vice-President of the Pine Point Community Council. With her fiancé, she founded Good Neighbor Fence Company.  A fan of Wonder Woman, she was thought of as a true superhero to her family. Luz touched the lives of all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Jose Hernandez of Springfield, Efrain Rodriguez and his fiancé Erica Olivo of Springfield, Kayla Rivera of Springfield and Netania Caceres and her husband Isaiah of Enfield, CT; her fiancé of 11 years, John Lysak of Springfield; her step-children: Samantha Tremblay, Erica Lysak, Lauren Lysak and Kevin Lysak, all of Springfield; 11 grandchildren and many brothers and sisters, other family members, and numerous friends and colleagues.

Services for Luz will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021 at Christian Life Center, 1590 Sumner Ave., Springfield with calling hours from 4:00-6:00pm followed by a funeral service at 6:00pm.
