Marcellin Petit Obituary

Marcellin J. Petit, 94, passed away peacefully at home on October 5, 2020. Born in Montreal, Canada on May 19, 1926 to the late Emile and Florina (Lorquet) Petit, he came to the United States in 1955 and was a Springfield resident for 65 years.  An accomplished and talented painter, Marcellin worked for several area companies, including Letendre Painting, OR Cote and retired from Richard Couture Painting. For many years he played in a bowling league at Riverdale Lanes. He enjoyed playing cards, Sudoku, and cheering on the Red Sox and New England Patriots. He was passionate about fairness and equality for all. Most especially important in his life was the love and devotion to his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, her beloved children: Lise Petit-Dondi and her husband David of Chicopee, Luc Petit and his wife Lise of Wilbraham, Norman Petit of West Springfield, Guy Petit and his husband Mike Reyor of Springfield, Sandra Kocziak of Westfield, Doris Hudson and her husband Michael of Dartmouth, Michel Petit and his wife Valerie of Springfield and Mark Petit of Springfield; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Real, Girard, Germain, Lorraine, Therese, Carmen, Gemma, and Monique, all in Canada, along with many other family members and friends.  

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Rejeanne (Banville) Petit; a son, Pierre Petit and 3 brothers, Denis, Gille, and Jean-Louis.

A public walk-thru visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 from 4:00-7:00pm at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020 assembling at 8:30am at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services and proceeding to St. Rose de Lima Church, Chicopee for a funeral mass at 9:30am. Burial will follow at St. Rose de Lima Cemetery.  Guests are required to adhere to state guidelines requiring wearing face masks, no contact, and social distancing.
