Maria L. Arrastia, 78, passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2024. Born in Mexico City, Mexico on December 5, 1945, she was one of 7 children born to the late Guadalupe and Moises Mendoza. She came to the United States, settling in Springfield.
Maria worked as a support counselor for Multicultural Community Services of the Pioneer Valley, before retiring after over 20 years. A woman of strong faith, she was a parishioner of St. Michael Cathedral in Springfield. Maria was a talented artist, creating art through various mediums including watercolor painting and sketching. She enjoyed crafting. Music and dancing were a constant source of joy and happiness for her. She enjoyed cooking and time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren.
She leaves her daughters: Miriam Anderson and her husband Anthony of Hoffman Estates, IL, Lorena Prokop and her husband Jay of Warren, and Lourdes Arrastia of Springfield; her grandchildren, Mia and Anthony; her siblings, Moises, Irma, and Ellena of Mexico, along with other extended family members and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Jose A. Arrastia, and her siblings Erasmo, Elvia, and Enriqueta.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 19, 2024 at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield with Calling Hours from 10:00am-12:00pm followed by a Celebration of Maria’s Life at 12:00pm. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
