Maria Ilda DaSilva (Agostinho) gracefully departed this world surrounded by her loving family in Ludlow, MA on the evening of September 11, 2023, at the age of 86. Maria Ilda is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Luis Carlos Dasilva, and their two daughters, Maria Zelia Alves (Artur Alves) and Anabela Smith (Jerry Smith, Sr.). She leaves behind a legacy of love and joy, cherished by her grandchildren Cindy (Carlos), Stephen, Danny (Sarah), David (Joanna), Dominic, Jessie (Alex), Derek, Desiree, Jerry Jr., Brandon, and Dustin (Lacy). She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Danny (Amanda), Lexy, Haleigh, Stephen Jr., Rita, Sumer, Mason, Massimo, Valentina, Adelina, Dakota, Connor, Waylon, Lennox, Xavier, and Nathan, and her great-great-grandchild Celeste Carmen (Cece).
Born on April 12, 1937, in Benedita, Portugal, Maria Ilda was the beloved daughter of Francisco Agostinho and Ilda Maria Machado. She is preceded by her parents and her siblings Acacio, Garcia, Nascimento, and Digna. She is survived by her loving sisters Constancia, Julia, and Lita (Venancio), her brother-in-law Marino Vitorino (Deolinda), as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and friends both in the United States and Europe.
In 1970, Maria Ilda emigrated from Portugal to Indian Orchard, MA, with her family. She found employment at Nixon Company, where she worked diligently until her retirement. Throughout her life, Maria Ilda showcased her talent as a seamstress, delighting her family with her beautiful creations through sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She also shared her passion for puzzles, doll collecting, gardening, camping, and cheering for her favorite soccer team, Benfica. Maria Ilda loved indulging in novelas, attending her grandchildren's soccer games, and cooking delicious meals for family holiday gatherings. Her witty personality and contagious laughter made her the life of every party.
Maria Ilda’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Jose Vinagre and the staff at Orchard Medical and Amy at Baystate VNA who went above and beyond and Baystate Hospice, Scott for all you did for her as well as for the family, her physical therapist, John, who came in and had her laughing and upped her spirits while getting her to do her exercises. They also want to thank Maria Luzio (Chávena) and Maria Joao White for watching out for her and making her feel at ease during her many hospital stays and Fatima Barroso for all the support and the candles she lit for her. We appreciate and love you all.
