MaryKate B. (Caney) O’Connor passed away at home on May 18, 2021. Born in Springfield on May 8, 1964 to the late Henry and Barbara (Kendall) Caney, she was a lifelong Indian Orchard resident. MaryKate was a longtime employee for the City of Springfield working in various departments, most recently the Department of Public Works. She had an exceptional love of animals and was known to say that she liked them better than people. Her quick wit and infectious sense of humor brightened people's day. She was memorable; when you met MaryKate, you were not likely to forget her. She will be remembered mostly as a good, kind and caring person.
Predeceased by her beloved husband, Patrick “Paudie” O’Connor in 2015, she will be dearly missed by beloved family here and in Ireland, along with many friends and colleagues.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services is entrusted with arrangements.
To honor her love of animals, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control & Adoption Center, 627 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104. To express online condolences, visit www.nowakfuneral.com.
