Obituary
Maurice P. Dion, Jr., 69, of Indian Orchard, passed away April 1, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Springfield on November 15, 1953 to the late Maurice P. and Lorraine E. (Ladue) Dion, he was a lifelong Springfield resident. He was a 1971 graduate of the High School of Commerce where he played baseball. For many years he worked at Hamilton Standard and retired from Turbine Controls as an assembly leadsman.
Maurice loved all things related to airplanes. He enjoyed attending airshows, had taken flying lessons, and collected airplane memorabilia. He enjoyed listening to music, mainly Classic Rock, bowling at the former State Bowl in Springfield, NASCAR, and riding go-karts. Most especially, he was a wonderful and devoted “Papa” to his cherished grandchildren.
He leaves his daughters, Kimberly Girard and her partner Jamie Cross of Indian Orchard and Becky Gaumond and her husband Chris of Springfield; his sisters, Deborah Yelle of Ludlow and Danielle Dion-Korell and her husband Roger Korell of Chicopee; his grandchildren, Devon Girard, Christopher Girard, Raven Cross, and Zachary Cross; his great-grandchildren Damien Girard and Aria Girard, along with several nieces and nephews, other special family members, and many friends. He was predeceased by his wife Karen “Kay” (Guyette) Dion in 2022; a daughter Jaime Girard, and a brother-in-law Daniel Yelle.
