Monica Donegan Obituary

Monica J. (Keith) Donegan, 89, long time resident of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at her home on December 8, 2023 with family by her side. Monica was raised in Derry, NH and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Monica (Pitt) Keith. She attended Pinkerton Academy where she met Bob Donegan, the love of her life. She continued her education at Elliot School of Nursing before marrying Bob and joining him in his military assignments. They eventually settled in Ludlow where they raised four children.

Monica had a creative flair for all things, including fashion, home decorating and gardening. Her greatest expression of that talent was as an accomplished artist. As a high school student, she was awarded an art scholarship to the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Locally, she had invitations to exhibit her art at the Jewish Community Center, the Ludlow Library and other area art shows. Family and friends treasure having her work displayed in their homes. When JCPenny opened as an anchor store for the new Eastfield Mall, Monica started a 15 year career with them. She worked in various roles throughout the store, retiring in 1992 as an assistant store manager. After retirement she and Bob enjoyed traveling, both internationally and along the east coast, joining their walking group for weekly walks and coffee, and attending shows and concerts. She was a Senior Olympic race walker and was awarded many medals at local and national events.

Monica will be dearly missed by her daughter Diane Rock and her husband Jim, her daughter Monica Panek and her husband Bob, her son Alan and his fiancé Nancy, and six grandchildren. She was pre-deceased earlier this year by her loving husband Robert N. Donegan and her cherished son Robert K. Donegan. She was also pre-deceased by her sisters Irene Keith and Barbara Gibbons, and her brother Ernest Keith. The family would like to thank the caregivers and hospice staff who took wonderful care of our mother in her final days, especially Megan and Cheryl of Beacon Hospice.
