Paula Donohue Obituary

Paula Mary (Kenney) Donohue, 96, passed away January 25, 2020 peacefully at home. Born in Springfield to the late John and Pauline (Heim) Kenney, she was a longtime Springfield resident. Paula graduated from Medway High School and American International College. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from UMass and then spent a lifelong career teaching K-6, specializing in remedial reading, in the East Longmeadow Public Schools. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teacher’s Association and past chairman of the American Heart Association. Paula spent winters in Naples, FL and summers vacationing in West Dennis, MA. Her yearly trips to the Big E were a favorite activity.  She was an accomplished and talented pianist, having the ability to play by ear. An avid reader, she loved all genres of literature, especially the classics, poetry and the theater.

She leaves her children: Dr. Paul Donohue III of Monson, Dr. Christopher Donohue and his wife Karen of Wilbraham, and Dr. Rebecca Koeniger-Donohue and her husband Charles of Boston; her grandchildren, Brendan Koeniger and his wife Lisa, Paul Koeniger and his wife Caroline Washburne, Nicholas Koeniger, Troy Donohue, Parker Donohue and Regan Donohue and 2 great-grandchildren Lily and Hardy Koeniger. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Paul A. Donohue, Jr. in 2009. The family would like to extend a thank you to Paula’s caregiver of many years, Hagar Sanniez for the loving and compassionate care given to her and also to her friend, Denise Morin for the special times shared together.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 10:00am at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1023 Parker St., Springfield followed by burial at St. Michael Cemetery, Springfield. Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services are entrusted with arrangements.
